Devaiah — Dean\, BITS LAW\n\nSeminar Director\nDr. Subhash Chavan (Chairman — BOSLA) \nOrganizing Secretary\n\nDr. Manju Kalita — Librarian\, BITSDES\nDr. Sangeeta Paliwal — Librarian\, BITSoM\nDr. Laghir Rabari — Librarian\, BITS LAW\n\nContact Details\nDr. Manju Kalita (Co-Ordinator): 9595594919  ·  Dr. Kuljeet Kahlon: 9819056249 \nAbout BOSLA\nThe Bombay Science Librarians’ Association (BOSLA) was established in October 1975 and officially registered on 9th March 1978 with Registration No. F4735 (BOM) at the Office of the Charity Commissioner\, Maharashtra State\, Mumbai. \nDuring the 1970s\, the librarians of scientific institutions realized that with the existing resources\, it was not possible for them to fully cater to the needs of the scientific community of their organizations due to the steadily rising costs of publications and almost stationary annual budgets for their libraries. \nThe initiative was then taken by the librarians of Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (B.A.R.C.)\, Department of Chemical Technology\, Bombay University (U.D.C.T.)\, Indian Institute of Technology (I.I.T.)\, Bombay and Tata Institute of Fundamental Research (T.I.F.R.). They started meeting frequently to discuss and explore the possibilities of developing closer ties than routine inter-library loan. As a result of these efforts\, the Bombay Science Librarian’s Association (BOSLA) was formed in October 1975. \nPresently\, the association has grown to include more than 500 life members nationwide. The association keeps organizing seminars\, conferences\, and workshops in association with various institutions with the main objective of upskilling the working knowledge of the librarians. \nMain objectives of the Association: \n\nTo improve the services of the Bombay Science Libraries.\nTo cooperate actively to benefit mutually by the resources available to the libraries.\nTo strengthen the financial resources of the science libraries in Bombay.\nTo raise the professional standard of library staff in the Bombay Science Libraries.\nTo improve the status and service conditions of the library staff in Bombay.\nTo maintain liaison between the professionals and the Government.\n\nAbout BITS Pilani\, Mumbai Campus Library\nThe BITS Pilani\, Mumbai Campus Library serves as the integrated knowledge hub for the BITS School of Management (BITSOM)\, BITS Law School (BITSLAW)\, and BITS Design School (BITSDES)\, supporting excellence in management\, law\, and design education through a rich ecosystem of information resources\, technology-enabled services\, and collaborative learning spaces. Established progressively alongside the schools — BITSOM (2021)\, BITSLAW (2023)\, and BITSDES (2024) — the library offers an extensive collection of print and digital resources\, including books\, e-books\, scholarly journals\, legal and business databases\, legal reports\, industry reports\, trend reports\, case studies\, market intelligence resources\, multimedia content\, and specialized design and creative arts collections. The library provides a comprehensive suite of services\, including reference and research assistance\, literature search support\, information literacy and research skills training\, legal and business database instruction\, citation and referencing guidance\, current awareness services\, document delivery\, remote access to electronic resources\, and personalized research consultations. Designed as a user-centric and future-ready learning environment\, the library fosters innovation\, interdisciplinary research\, creativity\, and lifelong learning while empowering students\, faculty\, and researchers to excel in their academic and professional endeavours. \nAbout the Seminar\nOn the occasion of the Birth Anniversary of Dr. S. R. Ranganathan\, the pioneer of Library and Information Science in India\, the Bombay Science Librarians’ Association (BOSLA) and BITS Pilani Mumbai Campus are jointly organizing a National Level Seminar on the theme: “Libraries 5.0: Intelligent Knowledge Ecosystems” on 22nd August 2026. \nThe seminar will focus on the theme “Libraries 5.0: Intelligent Knowledge Ecosystems\,” highlighting how Artificial Intelligence (AI)\, big data\, cloud computing\, and other emerging technologies are transforming libraries into intelligent\, user-centric knowledge hubs. It will explore the evolving role of Library and Information Science (LIS) professionals in delivering innovative\, inclusive\, and technology-enabled information services. \nThe event also pays tribute to the visionary ideals of Dr. S. R. Ranganathan\, whose Five Laws of Library Science continue to inspire the evolution of libraries.
