They started meeting frequently to discuss and explore the possibilities of developing closer ties than routine inter-library loan. As a result of these efforts\, the Bombay Science Librarian’s Association (BOSLA) was formed in October 1975. \nPresently\, the association has grown to include more than 500 life members nationwide. The association keeps organizing seminars\, conferences\, and workshops in association with various institutions with the main objective of upskilling the working knowledge of the librarians. \nMain objectives of the Association: \n\nTo improve the services of the Bombay Science Libraries.\nTo cooperate actively to benefit mutually by the resources available to the libraries.\nTo strengthen the financial resources of the science libraries in Bombay.\nTo raise the professional standard of library staff in the Bombay Science Libraries.\nTo improve the status and service conditions of the library staff in Bombay.\nTo maintain liaison between the professionals and the Government.\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout \nC-DAC Mumbai\n\n\nC-DAC Mumbai is the R&D Autonomous Society under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY)\, Govt. of India\, earlier known as NCST\, started operations in the Juhu campus in 1985. There are two campuses in Mumbai\, at Juhu and at Kharghar. It has a rich history of cutting-edge R&D in areas of Computer Graphics\, Computer Networks\, Language Translation\, Educational Applications of AI\, Resource Scheduling\, etc. It was among the pioneers in bringing the Internet to India through the ERNET project\, and also in multilingual technologies. \nNotable achievements of the C-DAC Mumbai \n\nCustoms Valuation project for Indian Customs\, Kenya\, and Ethiopia.\nNational and State-level e-Governance Service Delivery Gateway.\nBiometrics solutions for Fingerprint\, Iris\, and Face Recognition.\nA collection of virtual lab experiments for schools (Olabs)\nILO-compliant seafarer identification solution for DG Shipping.\nProviding the entire software solution for the GATE examination\, spanning from candidate registration to score report and counselling.\nMobile Seva project.\nLong Range Identification and Tracking for DG Shipping.\nThe Centre runs the PG-DAC and PG-DBDA 6-month diploma programmes at both the campuses\, with excellent placement records so far.\n\nCurrently\, the center is working in areas like Authentication Technologies\, Disaster Recovery\, Microservice-based application development\, Deep Learning applications\, Mobile Computing\, Blockchain Solutions\, Virtual Labs\, Educational games\, Robotics\, Accessibility\, Online Assessment\, etc. \n\n\n\n\nAbout \nC-DAC Mumbai Library\n\n\nThe C-DAC Mumbai Library of the Institute plays a significant & vital role in serving the faculty\, research fellows\, students & staff. The library is well-equipped with modern facilities and resources\, including CD-ROMs\, Online databases\, books\, bound volumes\, project reports\, and conference proceedings\, in the fields of Information Technology\, Electronics\, Management\, and allied subjects. There are two libraries\, respectively\, in the Juhu and Kharghar centers. It was very popular among researchers in the fields of information technology\, electronics\, software development\, computer science\, management\, and other related fields at the time of NCST. The library has a separate stack for textbooks\, periodicals (current and bound volumes)\, CD/DVD\, Reference sections\, Book Bank Section\, and a separate enclosure with cubicles for research fellows and faculty members. The library facilitates access to several e-resources through the One Nation One Subscription (ONOS) initiative\, Govt. of India\, and it includes IEEE\, ACM\, and E-books through its participation in the MCIT consortium. The library is rapidly developing its collection of books\, reference books\, periodicals\, and electronic resources. The library subscribes to a number of journals\, periodicals\, and newspapers. R. Ranganathan\, the pioneer of Library and Information Science in India\, Bombay Science Librarians & Association (BOSLA) and C-DAC Mumbai are jointly organizing a National Level Seminar on the theme: “Empowering Open Science: The Evolving Role of Library and Information Science Professionals” on 23rd August 2025. \nThe seminar will be focused on the growing importance of Open Science as a global movement towards making scientific research more transparent\, accessible\, and inclusive.
